The KEDECI e.V is contributing to the United Nations sustainability goals 15 and 4 as part of the Agenda 2030
UN SDG 15 : Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
UN SDG 4 : Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
We are committed to the educational development of children from underprivilidged villages in Tamil Nadu, India, while additionally trying to raising awareness of environmental protection and hygiene standards of people living in underprivilidged villages and of students of government schools .
We work very closely with a local partner non profit foundation to develop sustainable solutions and improve people’s living conditions.
Our partner Yatra Art and Culture Fundation https://www.yatraarts.org/ has developed unique methodologies in the following 3 areas:
1) Village outreaches
By executing street performance plays in public places in underprivilidged villages in a comedy style, while focussing topics as solid waste management , hygiene standards and alocoholism. The local actors of Yatra approach the villagers on eye level and in local language. After the street plays, a discussion is encouraged on stage and follow up compaigns are set up. Yatra team is later tracking the impact by conducting surveys and interviews about the impact in the villages.
2) Government school film screenings
By executing self shooted short films focussing topics as solid waste management , hygiene standards in school and at home and much more . The films are shooted in a “Bollywood style” , are loved by the students and supported by the teachers and school principals . After the film screenings a discussion with the students is encouraged and follow up compaigns are set up. Yatra team and KEDECI volunteers are later tracking the impact by conducting surveys and interviews about the impact in the school. Competions of the best impact in between schools are also planned. .
3) Free Yatra classes in traditional ARTs and afternoon tuitions
Every day in the afternoon Yatra offers free Arts classes for children until the age of 16 to give them the opportunity to enjoy singing , drawing , dancing and playing traditional instruments: Quite often, hidden talents are detected .
In 2 different locations Yata offers free afternoon tuitions in oder to support their sucess in school .
Regular Arts classes are offered in drama , Parai drum playing, Silamban wood stick movements , Bharatnatyam dance and painting.
